Unequal Rest

This series focuses on the immediate landscape of Carnton in Franklin, Tennessee. While the house itself is a silent, protected witness to the 1864 Battle of Franklin, the story is just as visible in the soil and the stone outside its walls.

The title, Unequal Rest, comes from the literal physical distance and the atmospheric difference between the two small plots on the property: the McGavock Family Cemetery and the burial ground for the enslaved.
