The Story History is often something we hold at arm’s length—a set of facts we learn from a distance. But standing on the grounds of the Carnton Plantation cemetery in October 2022, the distance disappeared. Unequal Rest was born from the heavy, physical realization that the systemic inequality of the past didn't end at the edge of the woods or the close of a life. It is still written in the earth.
 
This image documents the stark contrast between the markers of the remembered and the silence of the disregarded. It captures the moment where "knowing" history becomes "seeing" it—the visual proof that even in the finality of rest, the weight of how we treat one another remains etched into the landscape. This is a study of light hitting a hard truth, and the shadows that refuse to let us look away.
